A week ago when Instagram updated their logo & UI Design, our dear netizens lost it. Many criticized it but there were many who liked it. We fall in the second category.
We love the new sleek digitally defined modern design. The new logo has all the elements of a modern design – gradients, flat design and an outline of a digital camera. The earlier logo had retro colors like brown & cream on a vintage Polaroid camera with a rainbow. Alexis Anais Avedisian, an aesthetics researcher and graduate student at NYU Steinhard defines the transformation perfectly saying that Instagram has moved from ‘let us help you digitally store your real memories’ to ‘let us help you store the memories you make digitally’. The new logo relates to the young generation which dominates Instagram who make memories on digital too.
Yes, the app earlier gained its fame for the filters and other effects it offered to edit your pictures giving it a retro look & feel but it has changed over the years and so has the user base. It is shifting from the hipster artist kind to new age teens who like to capture every moment of their life and share it on Instagram.
Instagram supported apps like Hyperlapse, Boomerang and Layout have also changed their design using the same color scheme.
The photos and the videos stand out well with the black and white backgrounds, menus & icons making your storytelling on Instagram more intense.
